01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled conveniently off Interstate 5 in Firebaugh, California, Wayback Burgers offers an inviting haven for those craving classic American flavors with a fresh, made-to-order touch. Specializing in hamburgers, this fast food restaurant elevates the road trip meal experience far beyond typical chain fare. As you step inside, the cozy and amiable atmosphere, paired with friendly service, immediately sets the tone for a satisfying dining break.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly their handcrafted burgers, praised for juicy patties and imaginative builds that cater to traditional tastes and adventurous palates alike. Whether you opt for the signature double smash burger or a chicken variant, each bite bursts with fresh, savory goodness that speaks to the care behind every order. Complementing their main dishes, Wayback Burgers also offers a crisp Caesar salad from their garden selections—a refreshing palate cleanser or a lighter alternative.

One cannot visit without indulging in their famed milkshakes—creamy, thick, and indulgent. Choose from crowd favorites like Chocolate, Strawberry, or the delightfully rich Oreo Mud Pie. These hand-dipped milkshakes add a nostalgic, sweet finish to your meal that lingers pleasantly.

Customers repeatedly commend the attentive and efficient staff, with some highlighting the speed and accuracy of orders despite the freshness and made-from-scratch preparations. While it's not typical fast food speed—owing to the care in cooking—the trade-off is evident in the quality and flavor depth that sets Wayback Burgers apart from the usual roadside options.

Additional touches such as tasty Fried Pickle Chips and Cheese Curds bring a welcome twist to the side dish selection, rounding out a truly gratifying meal. Though practical portapotties serve as restrooms, this minor detail does little to dim the genuine warmth and comfort found inside.

Whether you're traveling along I-5 or local to the area, Wayback Burgers in Firebaugh is a noteworthy culinary stop to relish hearty, expertly crafted American fare. It’s a restaurant that invites you to slow down and savor each bite, making your journey a bit more delicious and memorable.

A great find. Excellent burgers, fries and a chocolate milkshake. The two young ladies running the shop did an outstanding job getting the orders out quickly and correctly. Highly recommend this for your road meal off I5.

1st time, good burger double smash burger style. Rest eh. Shake was a little too sweet. Not fast food all we're cooked from scratch, took 20+m. Watch the movie "The Founder" why McD put places like this outta biz, Wayback.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wayback Burgers Review Food: The burgers are made fresh to order and come with a good variety of options, from classics to specialty builds. The flavor is satisfying, and the portions are generous. The milkshakes are a standout, rich and creamy, complementing the meal perfectly. Service: The staff is efficient, courteous, and keeps the process moving smoothly. Orders are handled promptly, and the experience feels consistent and reliable. Final Summary: Wayback Burgers is a solid choice when craving a hearty, well-made burger. The food quality and dependable service make it a great casual spot. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars — a strong experience overall, with just a little room for improvement to reach 5 stars.

Good burgers. BBQ sauce had a nice kick. Fried Pickle Chips and Cheese Curds were very tasty. Milkshakes were hand dipped. Restrooms were port-a-potties outside.

Got this spot in the way to LA. It was better than many fast food chains around the area. We got chicken burger and two garden burger with onion rings. The burger was fresh and the patty was juicy. The onion rings were also great and not too oily. Their service was amicable and the done in is a cozy place.

We stopped by this place because there was a EV charging station at this restaurant. I ordered a cheese burger. It was really good. I wish there was one where I live. I would eat there often. This place is in a farming area. I wonder if they receive grass fed beef. Anyway, I would stop by again when I am heading to Sacramento.

Don't think of this as fast food. Service was OK. They were kinda busy at 2:30pm, but minimal friendliness when taking order and very slow to get food (15 min). And not a single THANK YOU from any employee...and there were several working today. When order came up, I asked if there were napkins already in the bag, and the guy said nothing and pointed to a napkin canister that happened to be empty...so thanks for that, ha. We have plenty of napkins in the car... Food was pricey... ~$50 for 4 burgers & fries. Now this is a step up from other fast food burgers, but still not sure the value was worth the price. Quality of meat was not the highest but decent, but toppings were fresh ingredients so we enjoyed that. Better than McD's quality for certain...

We discovered this place while stopping at Mobil gas on the way home from SoCal. We wanted shakes, but then my son saw how good the burgers looked, so he ordered a burger and fries. We were not disapointed! They have the best shakes I've ever tasted. I love that they put an actual brownie in my shake and my sons had red velvet cake in their shakes. I can't wait to try their food. Although I'll have to go to one in the town I live in and was happy to discover that there are several in the county I stay in. But if we are ever on the road again, we will stop at this location.
